The Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal Symposium is a collaborative effort between members of the Sports Law Journal and the Sports Law Concentration. Each year, the Symposium highlights a timely issue facing the sports industry, ensuring that Villanova remains at the forefront. The event garners national attention as members continue to bring in widely recognized professionals to share their expertise and insights.

2025 Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal Symposium:
Financing the Future: Sports Investing and Name, Image, and Likeness

The 2025 Symposium focused on the future of Sports Investing and financing, featuring speakers whose jobs intersect with sports and finances. These speakers brought interesting perspectives and new insights to a thoughtful conversation.

Panel 1: Navigating the New Era of Sports Investments

Panelists examined the current landscape of sports investments, with a specific focus on the rise of private equity and challenges in the sports investment process. It can be watched here.

2024: Fast Foward: The Changing Landscape of Sports Media​

The 2024 Symposium featured four panels creating a discussion around the disruption in sports media, programming, and revenue generation. The panelists included media personalities, network executives/producers, and league and team management.

2023: Sports Leagues: Challenges to Enter, Maintain, & Remain​

The 2023 Symposium discussed the current and future effects of creating new sports leagues. The panels featured athletes, team and league executives, professors, media members, and more, as they explored the challenges that current and former players face, the emerging leagues, and collective bargaining agreements. 2023's Symposium also featured interesting insights and live interviews from Carl Nassib, at the beginning of the Symposium, and Howie Roseman, at the end. 

2022: The Age of the Empowered Athlete

The 2022 Symposium explored the evolving NIL Landscape and the state of the market one year after state laws first allowed college athletes to capitalize on their name, image, and likeness (NIL). The event took a deep dive into how these changes have impacted both athletes and athletic programs, while also highlighting how student-athletes are using their platforms and NIL opportunities to raise awareness for mental health.
